Cari Kosins

2025 Candidate for Rondout Valley Board of Education

Hi, I'm Cari Kosins, Rondout Valley parent and local farmer. I moved to Kerhonkson in 2008 with my husband and 2 children, then to Accord in 2015, when we started our small business, Hudson Valley Heirloom Farm.

I am a member of the Rondout Valley Growers Association, the Icelandic Sheep Breeders of North America, the Rondout Equity Council, and serve on the Town of Rochester Agricultural Advisory Committee. Having worked in education administration for many years, I am deeply committed  to  enhancing educational opportunities for all students in the community. If given the opportunity to serve, I would bring to the Rondout Valley Board of Education my experience in managing schools, balancing significant annual budgets, as well as my appreciation for the broader community which supports our students.

When I'm not on the farm, you can find me walking or biking local rail trails, attending my daughter's college basketball games, or cheering on my son at his Rondout Valley High School Wrestling meet

My Experience

I began my career in education after graduating from New York University. With a background in community building and the arts, I worked as an educational administrator for 28 years at Little Red School House & Elisabeth Irwin High School in New York City. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, I was involved in decision-making around school policy and human resources,  as well as developing mission-centered and financially sustainable programming.

What I Believe

I believe school should be a place where every student feels a sense of belonging -- a place where they feel seen, heard and valued.

That decisions should be data-driven and take into account all perspectives.

That our school system should prepare students to reach their potential as learners and citizens in our community.

That the educational experiences students have in our district will have a lasting impact on their lives, and on our community for generations to come.
